Our story

We are committed to changing lives of low-income populations

We are a prompt and innovative funding partner with a standalone capital facility, driving financial growth among low-income communities with tailored solutions in areas such as climate, agriculture, health, and housing

SCBF was launched in April 2011 as a public private platform between the Swiss private sector and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to promote financial inclusion in developing and emerging economies.

The founding members of the SCBF association were (in alphabetical order) Allianz SE Reinsurance (Zurich), Bamboo Finance, Credit Suisse AG, Financial Systems Development Services AG (FIDES), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Swisscontact, Swiss microfinance holding sa, Swiss Re, Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture and Zurich Insurance Group Ltd.

Who we are

We collaborate with partners from the public and private sector to create and expand responsible financial solutions for underserved communities worldwide

We strategically blend and leverage resources to provide funding, technical assistance, and guidance to financial service providers and high-impact enterprises that create and scale new financial products and solutions, test new concepts, develop business cases, and expand financial awareness amongst the low-income populations. The goal is to provide essential services and economic empowerment for resilient and dignified lives.

Since inception to end of 2022, SCBF has co-funded over 188 projects across 50 countries, reaching over 3.4 million people with financial services that improve their living standards, build resilience and advance economic empowerment. With our new strategy and financial instruments, we look forward to better meet the needs of social enterprises and innovative organisations for advancing sustainable financial inclusion.
